Continuing our tour of Nelson’s Dockyard at English Harbour in Antigua (Part 1 can be seen here and Part 2 here), we visit first the Copper and Lumber Store.  Like many of the buildings in the restored dockyard, the Copper and Lumber Store now has a commercial use servicing both the tourists and those who use the marina that now occupies the harbour.  The Copper and Lumber Store is now an elegant hotel and restaurant.  The Mainbrace Pub, in the top image and on the right below) is a good place to eat when touring the dockyard.

Many of the other restored buildings like the one below are now used to serve the marina replacing the 18th century British naval ships with the sailing yachts that now occupy the harbour.  This is the Commissioner’s Room and Pay Office which now houses four shops meeting the needs of the marina and the tourist alike.

A short walk along the promontory that helps guard the harbour, a path leads to Fort Berkeley.  This fort was the harbour’s earliest defensive point and retains the same shape it had when first constructed in 1745.  Cannons once lined the walls facing out to sea, with the main body of the fort seen here from the seaward side of the defensive wall comprising sentry boxes and this restored guardhouse.
