For years, I carried around the heavy pack containing a full-frame Nikon and all the lenses that photographers think they can’t live without. I needed to lighten the load so I sold the full Nikon kit and replaced it with a Fujifilm mirrorless system. What used to fit in a large backpack has not been replaced with something that fits in a small slingbag. I am able to carry this all day without the slightest discomfort. In fact, even at the end of a full day I am still having to check the bag is still there, it is so light. If anyone is considering making the switch to a mirrorless system, I say do it, and do it NOW.
This is the camera and three lens system I now use for all my work:
Fujifilm X-T2 Mirrorless Digital Camera fitted with BosStrap sling strap system
Fujinon XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 – this is the “kit” lens but it has to be the best kit lens on the market. The images it produces are absolutely wonderful.
Fujinon XF 10-24mm F4
Fujinon XF 55-200mm F3.5-4.8
I have not added a flash to my kit. I am still learning about the Fuji system and have not found a suitable flash unit for my needs.
I still have more tripods than anyone can sensibly say they need. With the change to the mirrorless system, I really only need the Benro. I do, though have a Medium Format system in my gear closet which has not seen the light of day for many years which is my justification for keeping the other tripods.
Benro C-058 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Benro B-0 Ball Head (Perfect for travel and more than enough for the X-T2)
Gitzo GT2531 Explorer Aluminum Tripod with Manfrotto 3437 3-way head (The “central” column on this tripod is outside the three legs allowing for greater flexibility perfectly suitable for Macro work)
Manfrotto 055C Aluminum Tripod with Kirk B-1 Ball Head (Solid – Great for HDR and the Medium Format)
