Farmers Daughter Boutique

Farmers Daughter Boutique is this amazingly decorated building I found whilst walking around Wytheville in South West Virginia after visiting the County Court House. It sells custom picture framing, women’s clothing, handbags & accessories, jewelry, home decor and a whole lot more, examples of which are used to decorate the front of the shop.

The two-story weatherboard siding building dates back to around 1850. It is also known as the W F Slater Building after one of its original inhabitants who is known to have occupied the building in 1880. W F Slater is believed to have been a partner in the corn and flour business of Slater & Moyers. The current owners have been in the property since 1984.

The building is one of 245 contributing buildings in the Wytheville Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. The original boundaries of the Historic District (it was expanded in 2018) contains 292 buildings. With a contributing ratio in excess of 80%, the Wytheville Historic District has one of the highest overall levels of architectural integrity I have experienced. The earliest structures appear to date from about 1830 with the biggest expansion, including the W F Slater building, dating from the 1840s and 1850s.
