Rail Car Graffiti

Today we return to the Railyard in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  In previous posts we looked at the Santa Fe Southern Railway and the New Mexico Rail Runner Express which use the Santa Fe depot.  We have also looked at how the old freight depot has been converted to fit in with the modern use of this site.  Today we see a completely different aspect of this area.  This graffiti covered rail car, as you can see here, is only two tracks over from the Rail Runner Express but could be miles away from the gentrified area that is the Railyard today.

What first attracted me to this view was the poster of the Native American cradling the modern assault rifle.  The man in the poster, I assume, is purely a generalization as he appears to be a combination of two famous pictures.  The face looks to be of Sitting Bull whilst the way the rifle is held is reminiscent of a picture of Geronimo.  This poster, obviously, has some meaning to those who have been tagging this rail car.  The poster does not appear to have been added that recently but none of the graffiti had been allowed to overlap the poster.  I have looked endlessly on the internet to find out something specific about this image without success.  If anyone can provide insight, please leave a comment.

Although published back in June 2011, I still think this is the best and most comprehensive guide to HDR post-processing around and the reference I return to more often than anything else, including much more modern books and web publications.

  1. Very cool find Mark. There definitely is some meaning here but I don’t have a clue on what it is. I guess that is like most art.
