The harbour in St Johns, Antigua is known to most people as a stop for the cruise ships which tour the Caribbean. Also using the harbour are a fleet of small fishing boats which sell their catches at the local fish market.
Most of the visitors to the island are from the cruise ships. This restricts their time to explore and, hence, do not visit sites off the beaten track. This is a shame as there are some very interesting sights to be seen if you are willing to find them.
The two piers where the cruise ships dock are on the east end of the bay delivering their passengers directly into the heart of the historic old town. To the north is the commercial docks. Between the historic part of the town and the main commercial port is a dock where the fishing fleet ties up. It is great place to watch the cruise ships turn around as they leave the port each evening.

The sheltered bay that makes up St Johns Harbour faces east-west. In the winter months the setting sun, being a little south of due west, provides the perfect light for the fishing boats. The fleet is made up of small boats, most of which have seen better days. This, though, makes them perfect subjects to photograph. Add in the fantastic light and you get the images seen here.
